Harlan Bozeman
Harlan Bozeman (b. 1992) is a lens-based artist based in New Orleans, Louisiana. Coming from a journalism background, he is interested in how black history is reshaped, documented, and preserved. Combatting the erasure of black legacies and histories has long been a recurring theme in his projects. His current photographic work is based in the Arkansas Delta in the small town of Elaine, Arkansas. His past ongoing work explores Gullah sea islands communities, specifically Wadmalaw Island, where his family is from, and the memories that continue to prolong their cultural significance.
Bozeman earned an MFA in Studio Art from the University of Arkansas and a BA in Journalism from DePaul University. He is an alumnus of the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (2023), a Catchlight Global Fellow (2024), and is currently participating in the Magnum’s Foundation Counter Histories Fellowship. He also works as a Professor of Practice in the Newcomb Art Department at Tulane University.
