Michael Carlebach

Michael Carlebach (b. 1945) is an American photographer and educator who spent most of his career in South Florida. In addition to photo assignments for both local and national publications, Carlebach taught for over twenty years at the University of Miami, as founder and Chair of the Department of American Studies and Professor in the Department of Art and Art History.

Carlebach’s images were collected and published in two monographs, Sunny Land: Pictures of Paradise and Some of Us. In addition, he has written extensively about the history of photojournalism and documentary photography in America. His photographic work is held in the collections of the Library of Congress (Contemporary American Life), the International Museum of Photography at George Eastman House, the Lowe Art Museum, and the Otto Richter Library of the University of Miami.
