Michael Stipe
Michael Stipe (b. 1960) is a visual artist and the frontman for R.E.M., an American rock band from Athens, Georgia.
Stipe was a studio art major at the University of Georgia, studying photography and painting, before leaving school to pursue his music career. He has published two books of his photography, Volume 1 and Our Interference Times: A Visual Record, and served as a visiting artist and scholar-in-residence at New York University’s Steinhardt Department of Art.
