Rylan Steele

Rylan Steele is an artist and Professor of Photography at Columbus State University. His project, Ave Maria, which chronicles a Catholic-inspired community in a remote area of southern Florida and investigates the infrastructure that supports the original founders’ utopian vision, was published as a monograph by Aint-Bad in 2016.

Steele has exhibited photographs at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (Atlanta); the Houston Center for Photography; the Light Factory (Charlotte); and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art (New Orleans), among others. His work has appeared in publications including Fraction, Oneonethousand, Wired, the Oxford American, and Newsweek. Steele was a finalist for the Hudgens Prize for Georgia Artists and the Lange–Taylor Prize from the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University.
