Titus Brooks Heagins

Titus Brooks Heagins (b. 1950) is a photographer who lives and works in Durham, NC. The core of his photographic work comprises documenting communities of color around the world. One particular project of his, Durham Stories: Not Hell But You Can See It From Here!, is a portrait in and of the neglected streets of East Durham, an area he feels especially drawn to given his upbringing in a similar part of Houston as a grandson of African American sharecroppers.

Heagins, who obtained his MFA in Photography from the School of Art and Design at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, has work collected by the North Carolina Museum of Art (Raleigh); the Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum (Washington, DC); and the Casa de Africa (Havana, Cuba), among others.
