Eliot Dudik

Eliot Dudik (b. 1983) is a photographer, book artist, and educator interested in the connection between culture, history, politics, and place. He first began photographing the American South when he moved to Charleston, SC in 2004, capturing scenes from the spaces near U.S. Route 17, which snakes around the South Carolina Lowcountry resulting in his first book, Road Ends in Water (2010). He has also made images of sites of Civil War battles, swamps, and roads named Paradise, all of which have appeared in monographs and exhibitions.

In addition to his own photobooks, Dudik also works in collaboration with Jared Ragland on One Day Projects, an initiative dedicated to "promoting creative dialogue by challenging artists to collaboratively produce and publish innovative projects" in the span of 24 hours.

Dudik is currently based in eastern Virginia, where he manages his photography practice and book arts studios. In 2014, Dudik founded the photography program at the College of William and Mary, where he is still teaching.
